HAND-SURGERY

Arthritis in the hand can cause significant functional loss in addition to pain. It can affect any joint in the hand but the base of the thumb is particularly common.

Treatments for symptoms of arthritis start with analgesics, splintage, physiotherapy and steroid injection. For many people this can adequately manage symptoms and allow a return to normal life. Some people however experience persistent symptoms despite the above measures.

Surgery can be an excellent solution in some circumstances and a range of procedures can be performed including joint fusion, replacement or excision. We will see you to make an assessment and discuss the best treatment for your needs.
